For the first 3–4 days after surgery, keeping your upper body elevated and your head higher than your heart may help reduce swelling.
This is not mandatory, so if uncomfortable, you may sleep in a normal position.
For 1 month after surgery, please avoid sleeping on your side or stomach.
Sleep on your back with your face facing upward.
If autologous rib cartilage was harvested, you may be instructed to wear an abdominal compression binder.
Please wear it for one week, ensuring it is not too tight.
Swelling
In general, swelling and bruising take about 2 weeks to subside.
Swelling may not occur equally on both sides, and the nose may appear uneven or the nostrils may look asymmetrical in the early stage.
The area between the eyebrows and the nasal tip has thicker skin, so it will gradually become more natural over time.
If the nasal tip appears slightly upturned at first, it may take about 3 months for it to settle into a natural position and for the full result to appear.
When implants are used, they are placed beneath the periosteum covering the nasal bones, which may cause significant swelling and bruising around the eyes.
In some cases, bruising may spread beneath the conjunctiva of the eyes, causing redness.
This does not affect vision or the eyeball, so there is no need to worry.
Nosebleeds may occur for 2–3 days after surgery.
Do not blow your nose during this time. Simply wipe away any flowing blood gently.
Cold compresses are recommended for the first 3 days only.
After that, no additional compresses are necessary.
Warm compresses should be avoided unless specifically instructed by the clinic, as they may cause low-temperature burns.
Recovery Progress
Blowing your nose or wearing glasses is allowed starting 4 weeks after surgery.
Swelling and recovery vary by individual, and differences between the left and right sides may occur.
Immediately after surgery, the nose may appear slightly upturned or asymmetrical.
If osteotomy was performed, please avoid applying pressure to the face for 1 month.
Massage of the osteotomy area may be required between 1 week and 1 month post-surgery.
(Only perform massage after consulting with your surgeon and receiving proper instructions.)
welling in the nasal bridge (between the eyebrows) and nasal tip tends to subside more slowly, and the final shape usually stabilizes after approximately 6 months.
After surgery, you may experience nasal congestion, runny nose, or slight bleeding, but these symptoms typically improve over time.
A pulling sensation around the philtrum and nasal tip when moving your lips or smiling may last for 2–3 months.
To prevent deformation while the nose is settling, glasses and sunglasses should be avoided for about 1 month.
Wound Care
Do not remove the tape or nasal splint on your own.
Taping plays an important role in maintaining implant position and preventing blood accumulation.
(Removing it prematurely may affect the implant placement.)
If white cotton-like nasal packing is placed inside the nose, it is usually removed 2–3 days after surgery.
If a transparent silicone sheet is placed, it is typically removed after 1 week.
Stitches on the columella are usually removed on the 7th day, stitches from the alar reduction area on the 10th day, and internal nasal stitches after about 2 weeks.
Starting 2–3 days after surgery, please apply a small amount of the prescribed ointment to the incision area twice a day (morning and evening) until the internal stitches are removed.
(This should be done according to the clinic’s instructions after your first follow-up treatment.)
Please do not forcibly remove any scabs or wounds inside the nose, and avoid picking inside the nostrils with cotton swabs or fingers.
If rib cartilage was harvested, waterproof tape will be applied after surgery, so light showering is allowed. If the tape comes off or water enters the wound, dry the area thoroughly with cool air and apply a waterproof bandage.
Scar ointment should be used starting at least 1 month after surgery.
Cleansing & Showering
Until the nasal splint and tape are removed, please cleanse only the areas excluding the surgical site using a damp towel.
Washing and applying makeup around the nose are allowed starting the day after the columella stitches are removed.
When washing your face, do not rub the nose area. Please cleanse gently and avoid applying pressure.
Do not use nose packs, exfoliating products, scrubs, or cleansers containing particles on the nose area for one month.
Steam rooms and saunas are prohibited for 1 month after surgery.
Prescribed Medications
Please take all medications prescribed by the clinic as instructed after surgery.
Skipping doses may increase the risk of inflammation.
After discharge, please take the prescribed medications regularly at the designated times. If symptoms such as diarrhea or hives occur after taking the medication, discontinue use and contact the clinic immediately.
Pain relievers are included in the prescription.
However, if you continue to experience significant pain, you may take additional Tylenol (acetaminophen).
For 1 month after surgery, please avoid multivitamins (especially Vitamin E) and nutritional supplements, as they may increase the risk of bleeding.
Unless absolutely necessary, aspirin should be avoided for at least one week after surgery.
Swelling-reduction medications are not recommended, as they may also increase the risk of bleeding.
Exercise
Light walking starting 2–3 days after surgery may help reduce swelling.
Strenuous activities that apply pressure or strain to the face (such as workouts, swimming, or hiking) are allowed starting 1 month after surgery.
General Post-Operative Precautions
Alcohol & Smoking
Alcohol consumption and smoking are strictly prohibited for one month after surgery.
Please also avoid excessive exercise and stress during the recovery period.
Alcohol may increase the risk of inflammation, and smoking constricts blood vessels, which can delay wound healing and slow recovery.
