During the first 1–2 days after surgery, cold compresses are recommended several times a day for 10–15 minutes at a time to minimize swelling and bruising.
(Please wrap the ice pack in a towel to avoid direct contact with the skin.)
Depending on individual recovery, bruising and swelling may become more noticeable around days 2–3, and swelling gradually improves over the next 2–4 weeks.
Final results are usually fully visible after approximately 2–3 months.
It is recommended to sleep with your head elevated for the first 3 days after surgery.
Recovery Progress
After surgery, please avoid hot or spicy foods, as well as extremely cold foods. Avoid biting your lips or moving them excessively.
Itching may occur as the surgical area heals. Please do not scratch the area.
About 2 weeks after stitch removal, the surgical site may become red and firm due to scar tissue formation. This is a normal reaction and may last up to at least 6 months, depending on individual healing.
Wound Care
If fat grafting was performed on the lips, stitches at the donor site are removed after 2–3 days for the face and after 7–10 days for the thigh.
If an incision was made on the lips, please avoid bending your head forward, lifting heavy objects, or opening your mouth too widely.
Starting from the day of surgery, moisturizing care using ointment or cream is recommended 3–4 times per day on the surgical area.
Cleansing & Showering
Face washing, showering, and makeup are allowed starting 3 days after surgery. When cleansing, do not rub with pressure. Please cleanse gently and carefully.
When showering, apply waterproof tape over the bandage on the stitched donor site to prevent water from entering the wound. After showering, remove the waterproof tape and replace it with a new bandage.
After 3–4 days, you may shower carefully while avoiding the wound area. Once the area is completely dry, apply a fresh dressing bandage.
Prescribed Medications
Please take all medications prescribed by the clinic as instructed after surgery.
Skipping doses may increase the risk of inflammation.
After discharge, please take the prescribed medications regularly at the designated times. If symptoms such as diarrhea or hives occur after taking the medication, discontinue use and contact the clinic immediately.
Pain relievers are included in the prescription.
However, if you continue to experience significant pain, you may take additional Tylenol (acetaminophen).
For 1 month after surgery, please avoid multivitamins (especially Vitamin E) and nutritional supplements, as they may increase the risk of bleeding.
Unless absolutely necessary, aspirin should be avoided for at least one week after surgery.
Swelling-reduction medications are not recommended, as they may also increase the risk of bleeding.
Exercise
Light exercise is allowed after 2 weeks, and strenuous activities (such as workouts, hiking, or swimming) are allowed starting after 1 month.
General Post-Operative Precautions
Alcohol & Smoking
Alcohol consumption and smoking are strictly prohibited for one month after surgery.
Please also avoid excessive exercise and stress during the recovery period.
Alcohol may increase the risk of inflammation, and smoking constricts blood vessels, which can delay wound healing and slow recovery.
