When lying down, use 2–3 pillows to keep the surgical area elevated above the level of your heart.
For the first 1–2 days after surgery, you may feel dizzy when standing up suddenly, so please rise slowly.
After abdominal surgery, avoid bending forward, as this may cause fat around the navel area to harden or clump. Maintaining an upright posture is recommended.
Diet
After surgery, combining appropriate exercise with a low-calorie diet and avoiding caffeine and high-calorie foods may help maintain the surgical results.
Swelling
The more areas that were treated, the greater the swelling may be. Bruising may last for 1–3 weeks, depending on the area.
Major swelling decreases during the first 1 month, and the remaining swelling gradually improves over 2–3 months.
To notice dramatic changes, at least 3 months of recovery is required.
Recovery Progress
After surgery, hot packs, electric heating pads, ice packs, steam rooms, and saunas are strictly prohibited for 1 month.
Lymphatic massage should be avoided for 3 months, as it may worsen swelling.
Bruising, firmness, tingling, or dull sensation may occur in the surgical area. These symptoms are normal and will gradually disappear over time.
To help prevent hematoma, it is important to walk slowly as instructed by the medical staff. Please avoid unnecessary movements or activities that apply pressure to the surgical area for 2–4 weeks.
If a large amount of fat was removed, seroma may occur for an extended period. In such cases, please receive treatment according to the medical staff’s instructions.
Skin tightness, pulling sensations, numbness, and localized redness are part of the normal healing process.
Swelling and numbness usually improve significantly after 1 month.
Pulling sensations and redness gradually resolve over 3–6 months.
Wound Care
Stitches are removed on day 7.
For the first 1–2 days after surgery, a light fluid discharge (tumescent solution) may leak from the incision site. This is not active bleeding, so there is no need to worry. Simply wipe it gently with clean gauze.
Cleansing & Showering
Showering is allowed starting day 2–3 after surgery. Please apply a waterproof bandage before showering, and be sure to disinfect the stitched area afterward.
Please change the bandage daily to keep the wound dry and prevent moisture buildup.
Prescribed Medications
Please take all medications prescribed by the clinic as instructed after surgery. Skipping doses may increase the risk of inflammation.
After discharge, please take the prescribed medications regularly at the designated times. If symptoms such as diarrhea or hives occur after taking the medication, discontinue use and contact the clinic immediately.
Pain relievers are included in the prescription.
However, if you continue to experience significant pain, you may take additional Tylenol (acetaminophen).
For 1 month after surgery, please avoid multivitamins (especially Vitamin E) and nutritional supplements, as they may increase the risk of bleeding.
Unless absolutely necessary, aspirin should be avoided for at least one week after surgery.
Swelling-reduction medications are not recommended, as they may also increase the risk of bleeding.
Exercise
From the day after surgery and for the first 2 weeks, please engage in light walking or gentle strolling to help improve circulation.
Moving the surgical area helps promote blood flow, while staying completely still may cause swelling to last longer.
Aerobic or strenuous exercise is allowed starting after 1 month.
General Post-Operative Precautions
Alcohol & Smoking
Alcohol consumption and smoking are strictly prohibited for one month after surgery.
Please also avoid excessive exercise and stress during the recovery period.
Alcohol may increase the risk of inflammation, and smoking constricts blood vessels, which can delay wound healing and slow recovery.
