Post-Operative Guidelines for Hair Transplant Surgery
Position
For about 1 week after surgery, it is recommended to sleep with your upper body slightly elevated.
Please be careful not to touch the transplanted area while sleeping.
Minor bleeding may occur from the donor area, so it is recommended to place a towel over your pillow.
For 10 days after surgery, please avoid bending your head forward or applying pressure to the back of the head.
Swelling
Although it varies by individual, mild swelling in the forehead area may occur for 2–4 days after surgery.
Recovery Progress
The transplanted hair may gradually shed during the first 1 month after the procedure, and new hair growth typically begins over 3–4 months.
Therefore, it is normal for the transplanted hair to appear temporarily reduced around 1 month post-surgery.
Since there is a limit to the density that can be transplanted in a single session, multiple procedures may be required in some cases.
You may experience temporary changes in sensation around the donor area, such as numbness or heightened sensitivity, but this gradually improves over time.
Please dry your hair using cool air (such as a cool hair dryer or fan), and be careful when using a hairbrush around the transplanted area.
After hair transplantation, please avoid wearing tight-fitting hats.
Wound Care
Stitches are removed on day 10 after surgery, but removal may be delayed if healing is partially slow.
If your scalp feels itchy, please avoid rubbing or scratching, and gently tap the area instead.
Small scabs may form on the transplanted area, and it is best to allow them to fall off naturally starting around 10–12 days after surgery.
(Do not pick them off or soak them in water to remove them.)
If you have pets, the risk of infection may be higher than usual, so please take extra precautions for the first 1 week after surgery.
Cleansing & Showering
Immediately after surgery, it is recommended to gently wipe the area with a damp towel. After 4 days, light face washing with water is allowed, but do not rub the transplanted area strongly.
Bathing and sauna use are allowed starting 10 days after surgery.
Prescribed Medications
Please take all medications prescribed by the clinic as instructed after surgery.Skipping doses may increase the risk of inflammation.
After discharge, please take the prescribed medications regularly at the designated times. If symptoms such as diarrhea or hives occur after taking the medication, discontinue use and contact the clinic immediately.
Pain relievers are included in the prescription.
However, if you continue to experience significant pain, you may take additional Tylenol (acetaminophen).
For 1 month after surgery, please avoid multivitamins (especially Vitamin E) and nutritional supplements, as they may increase the risk of bleeding.
Unless absolutely necessary, aspirin should be avoided for at least one week after surgery.
Swelling-reduction medications are not recommended, as they may also increase the risk of bleeding.
General Post-Operative Precautions
Alcohol & Smoking
Alcohol consumption and smoking are strictly prohibited for one month after surgery.
Please also avoid excessive exercise and stress during the recovery period.
Alcohol may increase the risk of inflammation, and smoking constricts blood vessels, which can delay wound healing and slow recovery.
