For the first 48 hours after surgery, please avoid excessive activity and rest in a lying position as much as possible.
For the first 5 days after surgery, sleeping with your head elevated above the level of your heart using a soft pillow may help reduce swelling and pain.
For 3 weeks after surgery, please avoid straining your face, lying face down, or bending your head forward, as these actions may increase the risk of bleeding.
Swelling
Swelling and bruising may gradually worsen during the first 3–5 days after surgery. After that, they will slowly improve over time depending on individual recovery.
Please apply cold compresses until day 5 after surgery. When using compresses, wrap them in a thin towel to prevent direct contact with the skin.
Warm compresses should be avoided, as they may cause burns.
Recovery Progress
In the early stage after a facelift, swelling may cause the face to look unusual, and you may feel dissatisfied at first. The face may appear asymmetrical or unnatural temporarily.
We recommend avoiding driving for 3–4 days after surgery.
Please avoid actions that increase abdominal pressure, such as severe coughing, sneezing, or constipation, as this may raise blood pressure and cause bleeding.
Some temporary sensory changes (numbness, tightness, or an unfamiliar sensation) are normal after surgery. These usually improve within 3–6 months, although recovery varies by individual.
If you are concerned about scarring, you may apply scar ointment. For best results, it should be used for at least 3–6 months.
Wound Care
Immediately after surgery, slight bleeding or oozing may occur around the surgical area.
Do not forcibly remove any scabs that have formed on the surgical site.
Stitch removal is typically performed within 3–10 days after surgery, depending on the wound condition.
After stitch removal, please keep the tape applied by the clinic in place for 2 weeks, and remove it yourself after 2 weeks.
Cleansing & Showering
Showering is allowed starting the day after surgery, as long as you avoid direct contact with the surgical site.
Showering is allowed starting the day after surgery, as long as you avoid direct contact with the surgical site.
Please be careful not to rub the incision area with your fingers.
Steam rooms, saunas, and half-body baths are allowed starting after 4 weeks post-surgery.
Facial Band (Compression Band)
Please keep the initial bandage in place until day 2–3. After removal at the clinic, you will be provided with a facial compression band.
The facial band should be worn 24 hours a day until day 5. Starting from day 6, you may wear it on your own. (It should be worn for about 8 hours per day, and you may loosen or remove it while eating.)
Prescribed Medications
Please take all medications prescribed by the clinic as instructed after surgery.
Skipping doses may increase the risk of inflammation.
After discharge, please take the prescribed medications regularly at the designated times. If symptoms such as diarrhea or hives occur after taking the medication, discontinue use and contact the clinic immediately.
Pain relievers are included in the prescription.
However, if you continue to experience significant pain, you may take additional Tylenol (acetaminophen).
For 1 month after surgery, please avoid multivitamins (especially Vitamin E) and nutritional supplements, as they may increase the risk of bleeding.
Unless absolutely necessary, aspirin should be avoided for at least one week after surgery.
Swelling-reduction medications are not recommended, as they may also increase the risk of bleeding.
Exercise
Light exercise is allowed after 2 weeks, and strenuous activities (such as workouts, hiking, or swimming) are allowed starting after 1 month.
General Post-Operative Precautions
Alcohol & Smoking
Alcohol consumption and smoking are strictly prohibited for one month after surgery.
Please also avoid excessive exercise and stress during the recovery period.
Alcohol may increase the risk of inflammation, and smoking constricts blood vessels, which can delay wound healing and slow recovery.
