WONDERFUL PLASTIC SURGERY
Precautions for Plastic Surgery & Skin Treatments
Post-Operative Guidelines for Facial Contouring Surgery
Position
  1. Until 1 week after surgery, please ensure that your neck is not bent while sleeping. Keeping your upper body elevated with your head higher than your heart may help reduce swelling.
  2. For 1 month after surgery, please avoid sleeping on your side or stomach. Sleep on your back with your face facing upward.
Diet
  1. After surgery, begin by drinking water first. If there is no discomfort, start with soft foods such as rice porridge or soup, followed by soft bread, tofu, fish cakes, steamed eggs, and finely minced side dishes.
  2. A normal diet is allowed starting 1 week after surgery.
  3. It is recommended to avoid high-fiber foods that may cause constipation.
  4. For the first 2 weeks, please avoid spicy or irritating foods. Drinks containing small particles, seeds, or grains should also be avoided, as they may enter the intraoral wound area.
  5. To help reduce swelling, maintain oral hygiene, and clear phlegm, please drink at least 1L of lukewarm water per day.
  6. For 2 months after surgery, please avoid hard, tough, or sticky foods such as rice cakes, candy, gum, squid, radish kimchi, dried fish, and nuts.
(Especially for cheekbone surgery patients, please be careful to avoid excessive strain or stimulation to the surgical area for up to 3 months.)
  7. Straws should not be used for the first 1 month after surgery.
Swelling
  1. Swelling and bruising may worsen during the first 2–5 days after surgery. Swelling gradually subsides over the next 2–4 weeks, while major swelling may last up to 3 months, depending on individual recovery.
  2. Please apply cold compresses until day 5, and begin warm compresses starting day 6.
  3. When applying compresses, wrap them in a thin towel to prevent direct contact with the skin. When using warm compresses, ensure they are not too hot to avoid burns.
  4. Swelling may occur around the jawline, neck, or eye area. Please apply cold compresses to areas excluding the bandaged region.
Recovery Progress
  1. Until the intraoral stitches are removed, the gums may feel uneven, and swelling or pain may occur. These symptoms gradually improve after stitch removal.
  2. The face may appear uneven overall in the early stage, but this will gradually improve as swelling subsides.
  3. If blood collects or drains from the mouth or nose, do not blow it out. Simply wipe it away or gently spit it out. Do not blow your nose for 1 month after surgery.
  4. You may experience numbness, an unfamiliar sensation, or tingling in the surgical area. This is a normal part of recovery and gradually improves over several months.
  5. If cheekbone surgery was performed, you may have difficulty opening your mouth or notice sounds around the jaw joint when opening. These symptoms usually improve over time, and mouth-opening exercises may be necessary.
  6. After cheekbone surgery, the incision area on the side of the cheekbone may appear slightly raised or protruded. This does not mean that the bone was insufficiently reduced. It is part of the normal healing process, as temporary scar tissue forms around the incision as a protective response and gradually softens over time. This will improve gradually.
Wound Care
  1. You do not need to apply ointment or disinfect the wound area on your own.
  2. From the day of surgery up to 1 week, bleeding from the mouth may occur, and you may also cough up blood-tinged phlegm.
If blood collects or drains from the mouth or nose, do not blow it out. Simply wipe it away or gently spit it out.
(For about 7 days, pooled blood or disinfectant solution may drain.)
  3. Please avoid touching or checking the intraoral stitches with your tongue, as excessive stimulation may cause them to loosen.
  4. After surgery, the area around the mouth may appear blistered or irritated. This is usually caused by the mouth-opening device used during surgery. Applying ointment or petroleum jelly (Vaseline) at home will help the area heal quickly.
  5. If blood flows down the back of your throat or if you experience excessive bleeding, please contact the clinic immediately.
Cleansing (Including Oral Care) & Showering
  1. Please gargle frequently every 2 hours, in order to keep the inside of the mouth clean, as if disinfecting it.
  2. Gargling is required after waking up, immediately after meals, and before going to bed.
  3. When brushing your teeth, use a child-sized toothbrush and brush only the teeth area while avoiding the gums. Please be careful not to poke or irritate the surgical site.
(It is important to remove any food particles between the gums and teeth.)
  4. Since most facial contouring procedures are performed through the inside of the mouth, frequent gargling is very important to help prevent infection.
This is especially necessary after meals.
  5. Please dilute Listerine mouthwash with water at a 1:1 ratio before use. (Available at pharmacies.)
  6. You may wash your face and hair as long as water does not come into contact with the surgical site or tape. If the area becomes wet, dry it thoroughly with cool air and do not rub the wound.
  7. Bathhouses, half-body baths, steam rooms, and saunas are prohibited for 1 month after surgery.
Prescribed Medications
  1. Please take all medications prescribed by the clinic as instructed after surgery.
Skipping doses may increase the risk of inflammation.
  2. After discharge, please take the prescribed medications regularly at the designated times. If symptoms such as diarrhea or hives occur after taking the medication, discontinue use and contact the clinic immediately.
  3. Pain relievers are included in the prescription.
However, if you continue to experience significant pain, you may take additional Tylenol (acetaminophen).
  4. For 1 month after surgery, please avoid multivitamins (especially Vitamin E) and nutritional supplements, as they may increase the risk of bleeding.
  5. Unless absolutely necessary, aspirin should be avoided for at least one week after surgery.
  6. Swelling-reduction medications are not recommended, as they may also increase the risk of bleeding.
Exercise
  1. Light walking starting 2–3 days after surgery may help reduce swelling.
  2. Strenuous activities that apply pressure or strain to the face (such as workouts, swimming, or hiking) are allowed starting after 1 month.
General Post-Operative Precautions
  1. Alcohol & Smoking
Alcohol consumption and smoking are strictly prohibited for one month after surgery.
Please also avoid excessive exercise and stress during the recovery period.
Alcohol may increase the risk of inflammation, and smoking constricts blood vessels, which can delay wound healing and slow recovery.
  2. Emergency Situations
If you experience any of the following symptoms, please contact the clinic or your assigned coordinator immediately and visit the hospital as soon as possible.
Contact the Clinic Immediately If: · You experience severe eye pain or changes in vision
    · Heavy bleeding continues
    · You develop a high fever over 38°C or severe dizziness
    · The surgical area becomes extremely swollen or shows changes in skin color
