Post-Operative Guidelines for Breast Augmentation Surgery
Position
For about 1 week after surgery, it is recommended to sleep with your upper body slightly elevated.
Until 3 months after surgery, it is best to sleep on your back facing upward, and sleeping on your stomach should be avoided for up to 6 months.
Swelling
Swelling and bruising may worsen during the first 2–3 days after surgery and gradually improve over the next 2–4 weeks.
Breast swelling may cause temporary differences in size between the left and right sides, but this usually improves over time. However, if only one breast becomes severely swollen or if you notice significant dark bruising, please contact the clinic immediately.
Swelling is usually at its peak until about 3 days after surgery, and then it will gradually begin to subside from day 3 onward.
Recovery Progress
You may feel some discomfort due to the compression bandage after surgery, but an appropriate level of compression helps promote faster recovery.
Immediately after surgery, when swelling is severe, the breasts may appear uneven in size. As the swelling subsides over time, the asymmetry will gradually improve.
Please be careful to prevent the bandage from loosening, and avoid any stimulation such as pressure on the surgical area or getting it wet.
In the early stage, you may experience reduced sensation around the nipples and surrounding area, but sensation typically returns after about 2–3 months.
Scars will gradually begin to fade starting at least 6 weeks after surgery, and by 2–3 months post-surgery, they usually become barely noticeable.
Wound Care
After the Dermabond on the incision area falls off, please begin scar management using scar ointment or silicone patches starting 1 month later.
(Use for approximately 6 months–1 year is recommended.)
If stitches are present, please start scar management with scar ointment and patches 2 weeks after stitch removal.
(Use for approximately 6 months–1 year is recommended.)
Surgical tape is removed on day 7 at the first follow-up visit.
We recommend avoiding bras during daily activities only after 6 months post-surgery.
In the early stage, silicone-based scar ointment is recommended, as it provides effective moisturization and may help prevent keloid scarring.
Cleansing & Showering
Showering is allowed starting 1 week after surgery, and we recommend applying waterproof tape over the incision area.
Steam rooms and saunas are prohibited for 1 month after surgery.
Prescribed Medications
Please take all medications prescribed by the clinic as instructed after surgery. Skipping doses may increase the risk of inflammation.
After discharge, please take the prescribed medications regularly at the designated times. If symptoms such as diarrhea or hives occur after taking the medication, discontinue use and contact the clinic immediately.
Pain relievers are included in the prescription.
However, if you continue to experience significant pain, you may take additional Tylenol (acetaminophen).
For 1 month after surgery, please avoid multivitamins (especially Vitamin E) and nutritional supplements, as they may increase the risk of bleeding.
Unless absolutely necessary, aspirin should be avoided for at least one week after surgery.
Swelling-reduction medications are not recommended, as they may also increase the risk of bleeding.
Exercise
In the case of an underarm incision, you should limit arm movement for the first 3 days after surgery, except for eating and washing your face, and focus on rest.
Starting after 1 month, light exercise is allowed as long as it does not strain the body.
Activities that heavily involve the shoulder joint or cause prolonged breast movement, such as golf, weight training, swimming, or marathons, should be resumed gradually after 3 months.
Support Bra
When wearing a compression bra, please ensure it is properly positioned to support the lower breast line.
The use of an upper band may vary depending on your recovery progress.
After surgery, a sports bra should be worn for 2–6 months, and regular underwire bras may be worn after 6 months.
When wearing an underwire bra, we recommend choosing one that fully supports the implant without pressing directly on it.
During exercise, wearing a supportive sports bra is strongly recommended to minimize breast movement.
General Post-Operative Precautions
Alcohol & Smoking
Alcohol consumption and smoking are strictly prohibited for one month after surgery.
Please also avoid excessive exercise and stress during the recovery period.
Alcohol may increase the risk of inflammation, and smoking constricts blood vessels, which can delay wound healing and slow recovery.
